Shropshire Beekeepers Association (SBKA) has made history as the first beekeeping association to receive the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service. The accolade, a testament to SBKA’s volunteers, recognises their commitment to promoting beekeeping and training new beekeepers.

The award was presented at SBKA’s Conduit Head Apiary by the Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, Anna Turner, who handed the honour to SBKA Chair John Adams and President Brian Goodwin. Deputy Lord Lieutenant Mark Cuthbert-Brown introduced the ceremony, reflecting on SBKA’s 150-year affiliation with the BBKA and the volunteers’ remarkable efforts since 2016. Their work transformed a derelict site into a thriving education centre and apiary, complete with heritage fruit orchards, traditional meadows, and the preservation of 16th-century wells and buildings.
